Bright Happy Birthday

Hi, hi, hello!! Erica on the blog again today, a little bit excited still after a really fabulous Instagram hop two days ago. As part of The Daily Marker 30 Day challenge hosted by Kathy Racoosin, there are several blog hops and new for this time, is the Instagram hop. I can't even put into words how excited I was to be asked to take part in that as there are so many super talented people out there to choose from. Oh my, I nearly swooned.

I take this challenge very seriously (probably because it's crafts and not squat or plank related, lol) and make sure I colour something every day. Today's card was actually created in less than an hour, including drying and die cutting time.

One of the things I bought to prepare for the colouring challenge was a pack of Tim Holtz watercolour card stock already cut into 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches and I took one of these to stamp the Just A Rose slightly off-centre. Using VersaMark ink and white embossing power, I heat embossed the image and sat down to colour. To keep the card stock still and flat, I used Post-It tape and taped the card stock directly to the table. I placed the tape in a frame around the card stock, to prevent the colour from going there. Going for loose water colouring I did the flower in a vivid pink and added yellow in the middle and a little bit around the flower. Taking the green colour, I swished it over the leaves and tried not to make it too 'perfect'.

To make sure the card wasn't too plain, I decided to add stripes for the background in a drastic black. And then promptly decided to go ombré instead of solid black. Yeah, the decision making process can be a bit of a roller coaster!

Once I removed the Post-It tape, it looked a bit 'wrong' and naked. A quick solution to that problem is making a frame using a stitched frame and I went with black. The label stamps are so versatile and I used a hot pink ink to make it pop against all the black. And would you believe it, no sequins!! What's going on?

Ok, that's it from me today but I will be back before you know it!

Happy crafting,

Erica

Spreading Kindess card

Hello everyone, Erica on the blog today!

I don't know about you but I've been quite saddened to see so much hatred, friends attacking friends and general unkindness going around lately. Regardless of your political/religious/personal beliefs I think we can all do better with keeping it a bit civilised and perhaps doing less talking and more actions. With that in mind I made this card with a positive message to send out some positive karma into the world.

Using an A2 panel cut out from Ranger Ink water colour paper, I dusted it generously with my anti-static tool as I was going to heat emboss the gorgeous Just A Rose stamp set. I started by stamping it in the middle with VersaMark ink and dusting it with white embossing powder, also from Ranger Ink. Using a mask I already had, I stamped it again on both sides to create a rose bush border, before adding and setting the embossing powder with my heat tool.
